FOLD

FOLD is a nightclub and multidisciplinary arts venue at Gillian House on Stephenson Street in Canning Town, London. The venue sits above a former printing works on an industrial site between Canning Town and Star Lane, away from residential areas. Artists and DJs founded FOLD, which began operating on 18 August 2018 with a 24-hour opening event. Its founders were Seb Glover and Lasha Jorjoliani, and Shapes Collective operated the venue.

FOLD has two rooms and a total capacity of about 900 people. The former factory’s construction provides soundproofing. A Funktion-One system serves the main room, with output rated at 110 dB and low frequencies reaching 32 Hz; the room also has a lighting system. The venue includes five purpose-built music studios. The Jubilee line and London Overground provide access around the clock.

FOLD’s programme has included techno and electro, alongside events organised by London promoters and collectives. Columbo Music, Rupture, Signal DNB and Neighbourhood have held events there. Artists who have played at FOLD include Double O, Mantra, Tasha and SP:MC. The venue hosts UNFOLD, a Sunday daytime party featuring local artists whose line-ups are often unannounced, and FUTUR.SHOCK, an arts programme with talks, experimental music and visual art.
