Galaxy Bar

Galaxy Bar is a bar and dance-music venue at 206 Barbadoes Street in Christchurch Central City, Christchurch, next to Te Kaha Stadium. In 2024, it was entering its twentieth year of parties at the site. The building had previously housed CORSO, the Pacific Island Underground, Ōtautahi Social Centre, White Elephant and Kreation Art House. CORSO also hosted local organising for anti-apartheid protests and protests against the Springbok tours.

The venue has room for 177 people, with stages and decor made from reclaimed, found or donated materials. Its weekday operation includes a food bar, retro arcade and virtual-reality café, while weekend programming centres on parties and dance music. Electronic events have covered dancehall, dub, dubstep and techno, alongside raves, drag events and karaoke; the building also hosts poetry, puppet shows and other performances. Local crews and sound systems including HAVEN, Subtle Sound System and Chief Remedy Sound System have run events there, as has Liquid Exchange. Artists to play Galaxy Bar include Monika, Digital (UK), Caspian and Tamen.
