Gólya Presszó is a cooperative-run bar, community space and live-music venue at Orczy út 46-48 in Józsefváros, Budapest’s VIII district. It occupies a former Ganz Works office building on the western side of the Ganz site, between Orczy and Golgota squares. The cooperative bought the building in October 2018 and opened the venue there in October 2019, seeking to secure its premises and reduce reliance on a changing rental market.
The cooperative’s community-space venture began at Frisco Café on Mátyás Street in 2012, followed by Gólya’s opening on Bókay János utca in 2013. The earlier venue, at Bókay János utca 34, operated as a community house and concert space until 2019. It was a single-storey former pub with a garden, around 150 years old.
The current building spans about 1,200 square metres and includes a rooftop terrace. Its ground-floor former transformer house hosts concerts, discussions and conferences, while the upper floor has a pub area and a smaller room. Other facilities include a workshop, radio room, offices, gym and childcare spaces; capacity is about 200. Events include live music, film clubs, talks, workshops and other community activities. RIGHT TIME has promoted events there. Cooperative members organize work jointly and participate in decisions, with programming centred on solidarity, community and cooperative principles. Artists who have played at Gólya Presszó include Tim Reaper, Coco Bryce, Benc and Mentalien.
