Gorilla is a live-music venue and club in two Victorian railway arches beneath Oxford Road Station, on Whitworth Street West in Manchester. It opened in September 2012, taking over the former Green Room theatre and bar, which had closed the previous year. The theatre space became a room for gigs, club nights and comedy, including the monthly Group Therapy comedy club. The venue was opened by the team behind Manchester’s Trof bars, with interiors designed by owners Joel Wilkinson and Adelaide Winter.
Alongside the performance room, Gorilla has a bar, kitchen, lounge and gin parlour, with capacity for about 650. Its sound installation uses separate systems for the live room and bar/lounge, with d&b audiotechnik equipment and Midas and Yamaha control. Club promoters at the venue have included LDN DV8 Bass Face, Insidious Audio and BrainiacRecords; named nights have ranged from Guilty Pleasures to Gold Teeth. Artists to play there include Kniiight, Maggy B, Xodiak and Fracture. Gorilla closed for six months for essential works and reopened in November 2023.
