Grelle Forelle

Grelle Forelle occupies two floors at Spittelauer Lände 12 in Vienna’s 9th district, beside the Danube Canal. Four friends behind the Turbo collective established the club, which began operating in December 2011. At its opening, its capacity was put at around 1,000 people. A terrace faces the canal, and Neon Golden created the lighting and visual schemes for both floors.

Techno is central to the programme, alongside house, minimal, hip-hop performances and alternative concerts. Promoters staging events there include Grelle Forelle and Les Suspects Habituels. On the main floor, Lambda Labs subwoofers work with Alcons Audio line-array speakers; further Alcons systems serve the main floor and rear spaces. Artists who have appeared at the venue include En:vy, Workforce, Aras and Sequent.

In 2014, the club considered downsizing to reduce staffing and rental expenses. A redevelopment plan in 2015 proposed a main floor for about 500 people and a management handover from Matthias Balgavy to Johannes Piller-Giroud and Peter Balon.
