Hare & Hounds

Hare & Hounds is a pub and music venue on High Street in King’s Heath, Birmingham. The pub dates to 1820, while its present building was constructed in 1907 to designs by Samuel Owen of Owen & Ward. Grade II listed, it has Art Nouveau details including tiles in the entrance hall and staircase, preserved through major restoration work. Its address is 106 High Street, Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Two event rooms sit above the pub, hosting live music and club nights during the week and at weekends. Their combined capacity is about 200. A sound system was installed in both rooms in 2011, followed by investment in sound desks, monitors, amplifiers and DJ equipment. The rooms are used for music ranging from jazz and reggae to house and drum & bass, alongside live bands.

Leftfoot founder Adam Regan took over the space in 2007 and became its owner-promoter. Leftfoot runs nights focused on electronic music, dub and jazz; other promoters at the venue include Break Thru, Courtney Holder and Broken Minds. This Is TMRW presents rock, post-punk, grunge and emerging guitar bands. DRS, LSB, Fabio and Grooverider have played there, as has Gilles Peterson. UB40 performed their first gig at the Hare & Hounds in 1979, and the venue received the Pub Awards’ Best Live Entertainment prize in 2016.
