Hootananny is a live-music venue and pub at 93 Effra Rd in Brixton, London. It opened in 2007 in a converted Victorian pub, first planned as a Scottish music venue before its programme broadened. The building includes a beer garden and second bar, with capacity for about 600 people.
Its programme ranges across jungle, reggae, house and electronic music, with live bands, DJs and sound-system events. Artists to play the venue include Congo Natty, Aries, Chimpo and Satl. In 2023, Hootananny Brixton Venue CIC was incorporated as a not-for-profit social enterprise, separate from the company operating the pub and hostel.
Kit Fraser and Sophia Yates founded the venue as business partners. In 2013, Sophia Yates and her brother owned it, and she took part in its operation. Its programme has also featured dubstep, funk and Afrobeat, as well as disco, post-punk and highlife. Live bands are presented at least five nights a week. Reggae and sound-system events have featured Sir Lloyd Coxsone and Mungo’s Hi Fi, while artists who have played there include Sexy Lady Massive.
