Japan Monterrey

Japan Monterrey occupies three floors at Av. Monterrey #56, where the avenue meets Uruapan Street in Roma Norte, Mexico City. Japan Club opened at this address in 2017. Its name arose from a sticker that covered part of the Uruapan street sign, leaving “Japan” legible. Owner Federico Crespo’s club has room for about 150 people and uses a Funktion-One sound system.

The music spans house, techno, reggaeton and dembow. Jungle Empire has organized events there, and performers have included Pola & Bryson, Jubei, OMAAR and Crjs. Each year, Viva Ritmo brings DJs representing every Mexican state to perform. The club also provides free lessons and stage opportunities to 40 aspiring DJs, and hires around 1,500 Mexican artists annually. Drinks use products from Mexican brands Boing, Sidral Mundet and Jarritos.
