Joshua Brooks

Joshua Brooks is a Manchester venue at 106 Princess Street, occupying three floors with a bar, terrace and basement club beneath brick arches. It began operating in 1993, on the corner of Princess Street and Charles Street. The Chemical Brothers, who then performed as the Dust Brothers, had an early residency there. Promoters Jorge Meehan and Brian Murphy of JBM Media rescued the venue before its refurbishment and reopening in 2021.

In 2014, the basement held about 250 people and the venue shifted its bookings towards in-house events and eclectic electronic music. That year, a Void Airmotion V2 sound system replaced the club’s self-built speakers; its arrays were positioned above the dance floor, with subwoofers fitted into stage recesses. In 2017, the basement took the name Versions and received a custom DJ booth, new lighting and a four-point Void Acoustics system. Its programme has included house, techno, garage and drum and bass, with bookings spanning established and emerging artists. The daytime Day Time Disco series has also run there.

Goldie, General Levy, DRS and LSB are among the artists who have played at the venue. Joshua Brooks MCR and LDN DV8 Bass Face have run events there, as has Break Thru. Work in 2026 changed the floor layout, shifted the DJ booth and bar, added a green room for artists, and upgraded the lighting and speakers.
