La Java is a concert room and club in the Belleville area of Paris, at 105 rue du Faubourg du Temple in the 10th arrondissement. It opened in 1923 as a musette dance hall, in the basement of the Palais du Commerce, an Art Deco building designed by Ferdinand Bauguil. The gallery above was built in 1921, and has been a protected historic monument since 1994; the venue’s building has changed little since its construction.
Its programme has moved from musette and swing through rock and salsa to electronic club music, with a focus on electronic music around 2019. Its club nights cover house, techno, trance, nu-disco and electro-rock, across concerts and club nights run by La Java and local collectives. The room has a stage, sound and lighting equipment, and capacity for about 300. Édith Piaf and Django Reinhardt performed there, alongside Sanseverino and Holden.
