Laundry

Laundry is a lounge bar on Johnston Street in Fitzroy, Melbourne. It opened in the late 1990s, with indie and dance music on different nights. Dave Barrett took over the venue in 2011. Its programming has included live hip-hop, alongside occasional Afrobeat and dancehall club shows; the venue has also hosted local and international hip-hop artists.

The venue has a downstairs area with lounges and pool tables, where DJs play, and an upstairs room for DJs or bands that opens later in the evening. Its capacity is about 500, and it has two Funktion-One sound systems. Weekly nights cover hip-hop, breaks and drum and bass, while Wednesdays feature Extreme Karaoke. Promoters running events there include Bassed In, Big Beats Boutique, hyperbloom events and Nocturne Ravers. Drum and bass artists who have played Laundry include Satl, Tokyo Prose, Fox Stevenson and Madarasi.
