Macadam is an electronic music club at 17 rue Jules Launey in Bas-Chantenay, Nantes. It opened in September 2017, founded by Maxime Durand, Alexis Tenaud and Romain Galiby, in a former generalist nightclub in the city’s industrial district. The club grew out of the Nantes collective Androgyne, which is responsible for its artistic direction.
The venue occupies a dark industrial hangar, with a 363-square-metre ground floor, a 154-square-metre upper floor and a 200-square-metre outdoor terrace. Its main room has a Funktion-One system and a DJ booth suspended on cables; the dance floor wraps around the booth. A second dance floor sits in an adjoining building. Capacity is about 500. COMBE has been a resident DJ and sound engineer since the club began, working with its sound system.
Macadam’s programme ranges across house, techno, hardtek and trance. Macadam, CARBØNE and Bass Paradize have all run events there; Gloria is a Sunday daytime series, while Diva is another named party. Artists to have played include Ben UFO, Less-O, Soa420 and AERAE. Anaëlle Saas joined as booker and musical director in 2022. In 2023, the Macadam team launched the connected OHM.Town listening bar, which also operates as a restaurant. The club received the French Ministry of Culture’s Club culture label and established a conduct and risk-prevention charter in 2017.
