Miscellania · Melbourne, Australia

Miscellania is a nightclub at 2/401 Swanston Street in Melbourne’s CBD. It opened in 2021, founded by Georgia Vokes, Sasha Logan and Tim Fennell. Before the club, the premises housed IMIX, a sharehouse and an RMIT aerospace engineering hub. Logan and Fennell had both organised events in Melbourne’s dance-music scene; Logan ran Crazy Arms, while Fennell worked at 24 Moons as Max Freak. The founders opened Miscellania during a period of venue closures associated with COVID-19.
The venue occupies two levels and holds about 290 people. Its main room has a mezzanine, a stage and a U-shaped platform; a rooftop bar also serves as a performance space, with a DJ booth and Void sound system. Rooftop activity has included live performances, film screenings and kitchen pop-ups.
Its programme ranges across left-field dance music, experimental work, bands and other performance and art forms. Promoters running nights there have included Steeplejack, Animalia and blend corp.; named parties have included Dutty and Techworld, while Animalia has featured as both a promoter and a party. The venue has hosted the Absorb(ed) weekender, a series devoted to experimental music. Artists who have played there include Harold, Emelyne, eofy, LOIF and Sina (AU).
