Monarch

Monarch is a nightclub and bar at 101 6th Street, on the edge of San Francisco’s SoMa district. It was founded by four veterans of the city’s nightlife, Tadd Cortell, Manny Alferez, Micah Burns and Chris Smith of Om Records, and opened in November 2011 in the former Room Ultra Lounge, with local DJs Miguel Migs and David Harness playing the opening.

The venue spans two levels: an ornate upstairs bar and lounge with chandeliers and a mural, and a basement club arranged around the dance floor, with a bar, a raised DJ booth, two lounge areas and a separate drawing room. The club runs a custom Void Acoustics system with Powersoft amplification and Xilica processing. The long-running WERD party, which began in 2007, had moved to Monarch by 2017, and Rivs, YUKA YU, Ani Klang and Lonald J. Bandz are among the artists who have played there.
