MS Stubnitz is moored at Baakenhöft 1 in Hamburg. Constructed in Stralsund in 1964, the vessel served East Germany’s deep-sea fishing fleet, first as a base ship at Sassnitz and later as a refrigeration and transport vessel for the Rostock fleet until 1990. It became a nonprofit cultural venue in 1992, traveling to port cities before taking up a Hamburg berth in 2014. Hamburg designated the ship a monument in 2003.
Motorschiff Stubnitz e.V. runs the vessel, which presents live music, club events, performances and exhibitions across three floors. Its programme includes experimental and alternative work. The ship has several event areas and a maximum capacity of 700 people. Cargo hold 4, the largest room, can accommodate 400 standing guests and has a stage with sound and lighting systems. Cargo hold 1 holds 200 standing guests and includes a fixed sound system; the deck bar has a permanent DJ booth and integrated sound.
Bass Forward The Revolution has organized events aboard MS Stubnitz. Artists who have performed there include Sindicate, Bandulera, Capo Lee and Tom Finster. The ship received German APPLAUS recognition for culturally outstanding live-music programming in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2024. Restoration and maintenance work took place between 2019 and 2021. In October 2026, the vessel relocated from Kirchenpauerkai to Baakenhöft. Its crew has compiled an audio and video archive of more than 7,000 concert recordings, documenting events from the 1990s through summer 2023.
