Muziekcentrum Kinky Star is a youth music centre at Vlasmarkt 9 in Ghent, Belgium. Luc Waegeman, Danny Mommens and Jan Wygers founded it on 12 April 1997, extending the Kinky Star record label into a venue and café. The label and stage remained linked as the organisation developed. Its programme spans underground styles including metal, hip hop, noise and garage rock, alongside goth and wave nights under the recurring Dark Entries Nights. JonGeduld gives emerging bands performance opportunities and guidance with bookings, recording and releases.
The venue holds about 100 people. Black Francis, Das Pop, Compact Disk Dummies and Coely have played the stage. Kinky Star also produces radio programmes and art exhibitions, assists new collectives and published a book covering its first 20 years. Sound disturbance led to a period of fewer concerts, while around 2014 the club faced pressure to change its financial direction. Kinky Star hosted more than 300 live performances annually in 2018.
