NX Newcastle

NX Newcastle is a live music venue and nightclub on Westgate Road in central Newcastle. Its building opened in October 1927 as the New Westgate Picture House, a cinema with 1,870 seats. It later became the Majestic Ballroom, where the Beatles and the Who performed in the 1960s, and was subsequently used as a bingo hall. The Carling Academy opened there on 14 October 2005, with The Futureheads headlining, and adopted the O₂ Academy Newcastle name in 2008.

Electric Group took over the site in early 2022, replacing Academy Music Group, and reopened it as NX Newcastle in September 2022 following a £2.7 million refurbishment. The work removed the balcony and added a second room, with its own bar and capacity for 350 people. The building has several levels and a main room, with capacities of 1,550 for live shows and 2,100 for club nights. Upgrades included sound and audiovisual equipment, as well as an LED wall behind the stage.

Live performances and club events take place at the venue, with promoters including Big Fat Rave. Resident series include Second Speed and NX Loves, while club nights have included Dirty Pop, Ikon Live and Alpha. Second Speed has hosted DJ HIGHVØLTAGE for an all-night event. A.M.C, Pendulum and D Double E are among the artists who have played there.
