OIL Club

OIL Club opened in Shenzhen in November 2017 with sets by Mechatok, Swindle and Kode9. Founded by Yangyang Song and Huiyuan Sun, also known as Shy Beef, it occupies a ground-floor address in Futian’s business district: 11A Ground Floor, Tairan Mansion, Tairan 8th Rd. Yangyang’s London visit in 2015 inspired the plan for a dedicated underground dance-music venue in Shenzhen. Two months after opening, the club started weekly Open Decks sessions and DJ workshops to develop local DJs.

With room for about 300 people, OIL Club has a custom Danley Sound Labs system in its main room. Its spaces include Mainroom, Room 2 and Garage, while Room Too has a rectangular entrance and a window behind the DJ booth. Programming covers drum and bass, techno, house and trance, with events run by OIL Club and bluebubble. Resident DJs include Warmchainss, Sirens and Fatalis; artists who have played there include Foambb and Immuno. The club hosted Boiler Room Shenzhen and was twice picked as a club of the week by the dance music press. Its eighth-anniversary event spanned three days and three stages, featuring 72 artists from China.
