Rhiz

At Lerchenfelder Gürtel, Rhiz fills two historic Stadtbahn arches beneath the U6 tracks, close to Josefstädter Straße station. Herbie Molin, Peter Rantasa and Christof Kurzmann founded the venue, which opened on May 6, 1998. It first presented electronic music for listening, then expanded its program to live performances and DJ sets in different styles. Christian Fennesz, Radian and Peter Rehberg were associated with its early electronic scene.

The vaulted spaces house a bar and stage, and accommodate about 120 people. Its program has ranged across electronic music, experimental rock and improvisation, as well as eclectic DJ sets; Cybercutz has promoted events there. Zero T and CHERCHES have performed at Rhiz. From its opening through 2011, Michaela Schwentner ran jade@rhiz, a multimedia art club focused on DJ music. Schwentner founded the mosz label out of the Rhiz scene. The venue’s own label issued the tenth-anniversary compilation the risk of burns exist.
