IMMERSION Vol.3
Ruby Room · Tokyo, Japan
19:00 – 23:00
Ruby Room is a DJ bar, club and live venue in the Kasumi Building at 2-25-17 Dogenzaka, in central Shibuya behind the 109 building. It opened in 2002 as an offshoot of Sugar High, which had focused on DJ parties, and added a stage for bands. The owner is American nightclub impresario Matt Naiman.
The 150-capacity room has a semicircular stage, a DJ booth and JBL speakers, with a Pioneer DJM-900nexus2 mixer, two CDJ-2000nexus players and two Technics SL-1200 turntables. Its music covers house, techno, rock, reggae and hardcore, and it runs an open mic every Tuesday. Visiting artists such as Basement Jaxx, The Flaming Lips and Hernan Cattaneo have played DJ sets there, alongside DJs such as Sojourna, Coast2c and tenSpeed.
