Sala Siroco is located at Calle San Dimas, 3, in Madrid. The venue began operating in 1989, and its inaugural concert was held that December. David Novaes and Miguel Calvete took over the former Disco Ellas premises to establish a space for live music. Earlier uses of the building included Dimas Club, Fantasy, Sala San Dimas and Disco Ellas; drag and cabaret performances also took place there during Spain’s transition to democracy.
A renovation in 2011 reshaped the venue’s two floors: Siroco Club occupies the basement and holds 150 people, while Siroco Lounge on the upper floor accommodates 70. The work provided technical infrastructure, a backline and two stages. Siroco ArtLab, at street level, brings together digital art and cultural programming, with 12 digital screens, an LED ceiling and d&b audiotechnik sound equipment.
Concerts and club nights have covered indie, hip-hop, funk, soul and electronic music. Early programming introduced Madrid audiences to the Xixón Sound and Donosti Sound. Promoters 40HzClub and Eigenblau have staged events at the venue. Courtion and Bat (US) have performed there; early-career appearances included Dover and Los Rodríguez.
In 2002, Bongo Club was among Siroco’s Thursday nights, alternating hip-hop, funky and other rhythms. Siroco also created a record label that released music by Sobrinus.
