Sawmills

Sawmills is a temporary warehouse venue on Eugene Street in St Jude’s, Bristol, on a former timber yard and sawmill site. It was created by the teams behind The Jam Jar and The Underground, two independent Bristol venues, who also ran its public events programme. The site takes in seven warehouses and outdoor areas and keeps the 200-year-old stone walls of a former tannery. It holds about 3,000 people, and its operators installed a fully horn-loaded Lambda Labs QX3 sound system, the first in the UK.

The programme covers club nights, live music, day parties and festivals, with Keep Hush, Moon Fest and Alfresco Disco among the early promoters. Drum and bass promoters Invicta Audio, Undivide, Bris-Tek and Rumble In The Jungle have also run events there. Jakes, Grima & Azza and Particle have played Sawmills, and its live shows have included a sold-out set by American folk duo Nora Brown and Stephanie Coleman.
