Section 8

Section 8 is an outdoor container bar at 27–29 Tattersalls Lane in Melbourne’s Chinatown, Melbourne, with cocktails, DJ performances and live music. It opened in March 2006 in a car park leased by founder Maz Salt, who installed shipping containers for the bar and toilets. Initially a temporary pop-up, it became a permanent open-air venue centred on its container bar.

The music has ranged across hip-hop, R&B, house, disco and soul, with local and international musicians on the programme. Condensed Milk, run by Amin and co-founder Taijae, was among its recurring nights; blend corp. and uglybrownsounds have also promoted events there. Artists to play Section 8 include Campbell, Charms, Greer and Immuno. The venue expanded to Sydney in 2013, though it was no longer operating there by 2023. Ferdydurke, operated by the same proprietor, neighbours Section 8.
