Slaktkyrkan is a concert and club venue on Styckmästargatan in Slakthusområdet, Stockholm. It occupies Renseriet, a former slaughterhouse building where animal intestines were cleaned and prepared for sausage production. The venue opened at Hus 8 in February 2018, after the building had stood unused from 2011. Its high ceiling gives the main room a church-like character, reflected in the venue’s name.
Renovation work, completed in 2019 to architect Gustav Wickman’s original designs, preserved a central room with eight pillars and a raised section beneath a lantern roof. The main concert room has an eight-metre-wide stage and an L-Acoustics K2 sound system; capacity is 750 standing or 150 seated. A foyer connects to the larger room and is used for book launches and gatherings. The venue also has a long bar, while the adjacent 100-square-metre Kapellet holds 150 and is used for workshops and smaller concerts.
Alongside concerts, Slaktkyrkan hosts club nights, exhibitions and film screenings. Club nights have recurred at Slaktkyrkan and nearby Hus 7, while Hospitality UK and Next Chapter* have promoted events there. Artists who have played there include Grooverider, Zero T, Ayah and Degs. In 2019, Slaktkyrkan’s owner Ulf Johansson took over Malmö venue Plan B, with Carlo Emme continuing as its band booker.
