Studentencafé Ulm is a café and cultural venue at Stuttgarter Strasse 15 in Ulm, Baden-Württemberg, set in vaulted rooms within a renovated section of the city’s former Bundesfestung. Founded in 1977, it began with readings and political discussions before becoming a bar, an underground electronic-music club, a place for open jams and a public art studio.
The venue holds weekly jam sessions for musicians and music enthusiasts, Friday bar evenings and Saturday events centred on electronic music. Its wider programme includes concerts, open decks and club nights, with music spanning electronic sounds and rock ’n’ roll. Dream Disko, Klangsuppe and Elektrisiert are among its named nights, while Open Decks welcomes participants across genres and levels of experience. The DJ equipment comprises two Pioneer CDJ-2000 NXS players and a Pioneer DJM-900 NXS mixer; capacity is about 150.
Studentencafé Ulm is part of UstA e.V., whose venues also include CAT and Jazzkeller Sauschdall, both in the upper part of the Bastion. Volunteer members of the association staff the café, with department heads Paul Reichle, Michael Birken and Lory. The venue works with cultural and artistic practitioners, THU, Ulm University and NGOs; its rooms are also available for private hire. Onkel Jonas is among the artists who have played there.
