Tangent Gallery

Tangent Gallery is an arts and events venue at 715 E Milwaukee Street in Detroit’s Milwaukee Junction, within the city’s New Center industrial area. It opened in 2001, hosting art, music, theatre and performance, alongside dance nights featuring funk and dub-reggae. The party No Way Back, which began in 2007, later established a base there.

The venue is divided between a white room, comprising the main gallery and mezzanine, and a dark room that is the ballroom. The gallery has 20-foot ceilings and a 3,000-watt sound system; the ballroom has a 50-by-50-foot floor, a 20-by-40-foot stage and a 4,500-watt system. Capacity is about 2,000. Its programme has included techno, house, industrial and ghettotech, with Bad Ninjutsu Entertainment among the promoters. Artists to play there include Dieselboy, Drop Catch, Mac Diesel and LostBoy. In May 2023, fire marshals closed the seventh Space Dive event at the venue after finding fire and exit hazards, with more than 500 people inside.
