The Dark Room

The Dark Room began operating in Fukuoka in the mid-1990s, at 3-4-15 Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Kyushu, Japan. It occupied the eighth floor of the Bacchus-kan building and had an industrial-style interior. Its rooftop patio opened seasonally, from April through October. American owner Moses prepared the Wicked Grill bread, sauces and dressings from scratch.

In 2009, DJs played rock and alternative music and took requests from a collection exceeding 50,000 tracks. The venue also held monthly themed nights and Safari, a Saturday after-party. From 2014, it hosted null, a Fukuoka bass-music night featuring dubstep, grime and UK dub. A Drum & Bass/Jungle event at the venue featured KENI-DUB Soundsystem. Artists who have played there include Ko-ji, Yooo, BLACK CROW and Nu.
