Venue / dancefloor
The Fiddler's Elbow is located on Malden Road in Kentish Town, London. Its Grade II-listed premises were built around 1845 and once traded as the Old Mother Shipton; the building gained a theatre licence in 1854. The pub began hosting music in the 1970s and took its present name in the 1990s. Dan Maiden and Nancy Wild assumed the lease in 2009 and were co-owners in 2023.
With room for 150 people, the venue has an in-house PA and employs qualified sound engineers. Its programming has encompassed Irish sessions and rap battles as well as live bands, with music ranging from ska and reggae to punk, dance, rock, jazz, blues, folk, indie, metal and hip-hop. Live performances take place seven nights each week, and a typical bill features four bands.
Crawdaddy and Weirdsville are among the club nights held at the pub. Coast to Coast brought together ska, northern soul, reggae, Motown and boogaloo there over a four-year run. Relentlesssdj has promoted events at the venue, where Vantalux has played. The Pogues performed there, and Madness and Blur appeared during their early careers; Frank Turner has also played at the pub.
