The Harley is at 334 Glossop Road, on the corner of Hounsfield Road in Sheffield. The building was first a house and surgery for Dr Marriott Hall, gifted to him and his wife by her father, steel magnate Mark Firth, in 1866. It became the Harley Residential Club in May 1928 and was renamed the Harley Hotel within a year. In 2003, it began operating as The Harley, with a pub, burger restaurant, hotel and tearoom.
After closing amid financial pressures in April 2019, the venue reopened in late 2021 following a five-week refurbishment. Its programme has featured live bands, DJ sets and events with local artists, including open-mic and open-deck nights, as well as punk acts and comedians. Club music has included techno, drum and bass and bassline, alongside indie. Promoters holding events there have included Diskortez MISC, JayT MISC, Misc Movements and AFEX. Arctic Monkeys and The xx played early performances at the venue, which also hosted early gigs by Royal Blood.
