The Prince Consort

The Prince Consort is at 230 Wickham Street in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. A hotel stood on the site by around 1863, and the current three-storey masonry building was designed by Richard Gailey for publican John Daniel Heal. Contractor William Ferguson built it, with work completed in August 1888. Its original facilities included parlours, a dining room, a billiard room, six bathrooms, 28 bedrooms and four shops. On the first floor, the Club Room hosted local groups such as lodges and could be divided by a folding partition.

Architect John Patrick Donoghue designed an alteration and extension in 1935. The hotel entered the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992. It traded as the Elephant Hotel in 2014, then took the name The Prince Consort in 2020 under new owners Tilley & Wills Hotels. That year, redevelopment reshaped the heritage-listed venue into pub, supper-club, bar and garden areas. The present spaces include the ground-floor Parlour Bar and an open-air Garden Bar, alongside Greaser Bar, 400 Rabbits and La La Land.

La La Land is an upstairs lounge with a dance floor, VIP cabanas and sound equipment; its capacity is 350 standing or 100 seated. Greaser Bar and the Garden Bar each accommodate 250 standing. The Prince has an in-house sound system and capacity for 800, while the hotel uses a multi-zone CELTO system. Massive.BNE has promoted events at the venue, where Metrik, Halogenix, Teddy Killerz and Etherwood have performed.
