The Shamrock Bar & Basement opened at Rodríguez Peña 1220 in Buenos Aires in October 1995, founded by Jack and Jason Murphy. It was the city’s first Irish pub and among the early sellers of draught Guinness in South America. In 2016 Jack Murphy transferred his shareholding to Jason Murphy, who became sole owner. The bar closed during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 and reopened at the same address in November 2023.
The venue pairs a street-level bar with a basement nightclub, where electronic music began in 2000 and capacity is about 300. Basement programming spanned house, progressive, disco and minimal, and DJs Pareja hosted the recurring Fun Fun party. Mr C and Diego Roca are among the artists who played there, and LIQUIDME has also promoted events.
