The Star Of Kings is a live music pub at 126 York Way in Kings Cross, London. Rob Star opened it in December 2010, having previously run The Star of Bethnal Green in East London. His background included ten years promoting clubs and venues, and associations with Mulletover and Eastern Electrics. The building had earlier traded under the names Cross Kings, Backpacker and City of York Tavern. When the venue opened, its ground-floor stage held 300 people and the basement room held 100. The opening setup included a Funktion-One sound system, with plans for both live performances and club nights.
The basement has hosted electronic and alternative music nights, including Slippery, a weekly Thursday event launched in February 2011, and the monthly Electric Dreams. A basement bar has been used for live music, while a function room is located on the first floor. Full Clip Magazine and BarsClub Dnb have promoted events there, and performers have included LNO, Sumgii and Universal Project.
