The Warehouse

The Warehouse began operating on Somers Street in Leeds in 1979 under owner and manager Mike Wiand. Its early bookings included rock acts, among them Frankie Goes to Hollywood and other performers from the 1980s. Greg James created the club’s sound system and performed on it from the opening. In 1980, Michael Wiand invited DJs from New York to play there. The venue also launched Warehouse Records, signing Shannon before major labels took up the artist.

During the 1990s, Sasha and Graeme Park appeared at nights such as Soak and Kaos. Vague occupied the venue between 1993 and 1996, with SpeedQueen following it. The club shut in late 2007, then began operating again on 29 May 2010. For that reopening, Void Acoustics and DirtSounds provided a sound system, and capacity was 750.

The current site contains The Warehouse, The Loft and The Hanger, whose combined capacity reaches 1,050. In the main room, six ARCS speakers and four SB28 subwoofers form the L-Acoustics system. Promoters using the venue have included kirk allen and Crucast, while performers there have included Bou (UK), North Base and Darkzy. Revisited nights at The Warehouse have featured DJs and live performers connected with early-1990s house and rave. The first 1990 Revisited event there took place on 27 August 2021, returning the event to the venue after a long interval.
