Tigullio

Tigullio is an arts centre, social club and weekend nightclub at Spinola Bay in St Julian’s, Malta. It began as open-air roller-skating rinks in a garden, where people skated to live orchestras. In the late 1960s, an architect from Italy’s Tigullio region designed a nightclub on the site, giving the venue its name. Built from Maltese stone, it had a restaurant, two dance halls and a garden for live bands. Tigullio closed in the early 1990s and reopened after refurbishment on 14 November 2015.

After the reopening, the venue had a large hall and four smaller clubs, with capacity for about 1,500. Its weekend programme ranged from 1980s and 1990s music to reggae, drum and bass, underground, house and salsa. Alongside club nights, it hosts music jam sessions, circus arts, art sessions and workshops. Statix Malta Promotions and MIB Crew have run events there; artists to play include Ilixan Iris, Jon-roy, 2thirty8 and Jahh Roland. Tigullio also hosted a show by Samantha Fox in the 1980s.
