Underground Atlanta is a historic entertainment and shopping district beneath downtown Atlanta at Five Points, at 50 Upper Alabama Street near the Five Points MARTA station. Its streets lie under viaducts built over the railway in 1928–29, with older shopfronts preserved below. The area grew up around the southern terminus of the Western & Atlantic Railroad, set in 1837, and the Georgia Railroad Freight Depot of 1869 at its entrance is the oldest surviving building downtown.
The district opened as an entertainment area on 8 April 1969, with bars, clubs, restaurants and music venues. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980 and later closed during MARTA construction, reopening on 15 June 1989 as a retail and festival marketplace after a $142 million redevelopment of the four-block, 400,000-square-foot site. Shaneel Lalani of Lalani Ventures bought the district in the 2020s.
The Masquerade runs four rooms there, Heaven, Hell, Purgatory and Altar, holding from 300 to 1,500 people, and MJQ moved in from Ponce de Leon Avenue in January 2025. Jungle Bells Presents and Kruiseamerica have staged events in the district, with performances from Roni Size and Circadian.
