VIERNULVIER is an arts organisation and performance venue at Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 23 in Ghent, Belgium, operating from the De Vooruit building. Its programme spans performance art, music, literature, theatre and debate. The building stands near Minard Schouwburg, De Krook city library and Capitole; its café occupies a century-old monument.
The socialist movement built De Vooruit as a cultural centre in 1913, to designs by architect Ferdinand Dierkens. The project followed the Vooruit cooperative’s 1910 purchase of a residence and two adjoining houses on Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat. A group of young people began restoring the building in 1982 and reopened it as a cultural centre that September. It was listed as a protected monument in 1983. Kunstencentrum Vooruit took the name Kunstencentrum VIERNULVIER in 2022.
The Concert Hall, originally De Vooruit’s first cinema, has standing room for 1,110 and hosts concerts, nightlife and parties. The Theater Hall seats 650, while the Ballroom holds 420 standing and formerly served as the socialist movement’s public restaurant. The first I Love Techno event was held in the Concert Hall. Liquicity has run events at VIERNULVIER, where Kasra, Enei, En:vy and MC GQ have played. VIERNULVIER became an official Flemish Arts Institution in 2017.
