Village Underground

Village Underground is an events venue at 54 Holywell Lane in Shoreditch, east London. The project began in 2006 to provide studio space for creative workers, and the music venue opened in April 2007. It occupies a former Victorian coal-storage warehouse, with a flown d&b speaker system. Its wider workspace was built on a railway viaduct on Great Eastern Street, using repurposed Underground carriages and shipping containers. The roof’s carriages previously served as studios and workspaces; a rooftop terrace opened in 2026, giving visitors access to them.

Programming spans indie, electronic, experimental and hip-hop, alongside drum and bass club nights run by Liquicity, Columbo Music, Signal DNB and Village Underground. Artists who have played there include Goldie, SHERELLE, Maduk and VXRGO. In September 2021, the venue marked its 15th anniversary with a programme of gigs and club events.
