From Bristol, Loadstar brought together Gavin “Xample” Harris and Nick “Lomax” Hill, who had already made music as Xample & Lomax. The pair released their early Loadstar work through RAM Records, with the single Link to the Past / Rapidas arriving in 2010. “Link to the Past” became an early breakthrough for the duo. Their work also reached beyond their own name: Loadstar produced for Hadouken!, including the track “Parasite” and much of the group’s album Every Weekend. The duo also worked with Noisia on Hadouken!’s “Levitate”, linking their production work to another drum-and-bass act. The name Loadstar came from the spinning star shown on an old E-mu sampler while it loaded samples.

In 2012, Loadstar put out the EP Passenger / Bomber, accompanied by Culprate’s remix of “Passenger”. The following year brought the album Future Perfect on RAM Records, alongside a single from the album, “Black & White”, featuring Benny Banks. A Loadstar track also appeared in the video game Gran Turismo 6 in 2013. That year the duo produced tracks for Dot Rotten, Benny Banks and Scrufizzer, and worked on P Money’s single “Round the Clock”. Their releases also appeared on MTA Records and Digital Soundboy.

Loadstar released the album I Need the Night on RAM Records in 2017. The duo also issued the singles “Give Yourself” and “Run Down (Control)” that year. In 2018, their work with Mefjus appeared as the single If I Could (Loadstar Remix) / If I Could (REBRTH Remix) on Vision Recordings. That release paired Loadstar’s remix with a version by REBRTH, while keeping the original track as the shared starting point.

In 2019, Loadstar joined DC Breaks for the single Opposition / Higher VIP, released through Bassrush Records. The Bristol duo’s later credits also include collaborations with Takura and Reeko Squeeze.

From Groningen in the Netherlands, Noisia brought together Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen and Thijs de Vlieger. The trio began making music around 1998–99, initially experimenting with music software for fun before turning their attention to drum and bass. They met at high school and were among the few students there interested in the genre. The name came from an upside-down videotape: “VISION”, read in reverse, became “NOISIA”. The trio broke through in 2003 and became known for drum and bass, neurofunk and detailed sound design. Their music also drew on dubstep, breakbeat and house, with a dark style of drum and bass associated with the group. In 2004, they released the single Hub Cap / Backdraft on Subtitles Music.

Noisia’s production process involved Cubase, which the trio used for most of its work, alongside synthesizers and chains of plugins to build sounds. Their albums include Split the Atom, released in 2010, Outer Edges, released in 2016, and Closer, released in 2022. The group also put music out through OWSLA, mau5trap and Roc Nation, and developed the labels Vision Recordings and Division Recordings. Noisia also owned Invisible Recordings. Its work extended beyond club music to projects including the game DmC: Devil May Cry. The 2019 single non-responsive appeared on Neosignal Recordings. In 2021, Noisia collaborated with josh pan and Dylan Brady on Supersonic (My Existence), released through OWSLA/Atlantic with Skrillex. Vision Recordings released the 2023 album The Resonance VI, and the group released Hideous with LeStR that year on Blackout Music NL.

With Foreign Beggars, Noisia formed I Am Legion, a separate project that released a self-titled album in 2013. The trio also worked with New Zealand duo The Upbeats on the Dead Limit EP, a set of four collaborative tracks. Noisia took on production work under the name Nightwatch, contributing to projects with Alexis Jordan, Hadouken!, Wiley and Wretch 32. The group produced Hadouken!’s album For the Masses, which reached number 19 on the UK Albums Chart. After its last show together on August 21, 2022, the group split up; its return was announced on September 17, 2026.

Following in the footsteps of Ram's most recent successes, Sub Focus and Chase & Status, Loadstar are set to become another in a steady stream of Ram's breakthrough acts that will astound the hordes of D&B aficionados as well as the wider electronic music scene when they unleash their debut album later in the year.

While the world waits patiently for the pair's long player, Bristol based Gavin Harris and Nick Hill (formerly known as Xample & Lomax) offer up an almighty single that's received the Ram seal of approval and has been getting dance floors across the globe in a tangle.

'Berlin' opens with emotive synths and gradual organic pads, changing and progressing as a spoken word vocal sample takes you to an explosive drop. Call and response basslines bounce back and forth with increasing intensity while Loadstar's signature pounding drums pummel your senses. Expertly switching between beauty and the beast moments, this one displays the duo's perfect understanding of how to smash up big room raves.

These days every 'B side' seems to receive the title 'AA side' that was once reserved for when you truly couldn't pick between the two tunes. Fans of unashamedly heavy dance floor D&B will be pleased to know that 'Hit The Ground' firmly deserves the 'AA' accolade. Packed with energy and hitting hard with a grizzling reece bass and a familiar sample, we're convinced DJs will have a challenge to decide which of these two huge tracks to play.
