4am Kru is a London jungle production duo formed around Howie and Stu, who met while playing in different bands on the city’s live circuit. They began developing the project in late 2019, after finding they spent more time playing old jungle records than other music in their Tottenham studio. Their music draws on the sound of 1994. Howie and Stu’s influences also include acid house, rave and hardcore, as well as jungle. Their references extend from old-school jungle and early-1990s rave to R&B slow jams and 1980s film soundtracks. The project is a duo at its core, with additional collaborative artists, and Howie and Stu have written music together since meeting on the London band circuit.
4am Kru releases music through its own Embrace The Real Records label, and its releases also include work on Another Rhythm. Its EPs include Good Time, High Time and Hyperspace, alongside the album Incognito Rhythm, released on Embrace The Real Records. The duo described Good Time as a tribute to the 1990s UK rave scene. Its 2023 High Time EP also came out on Embrace The Real Records.
With Sir Hiss, the duo released Earshots, and Layla Sibelle features on Love On The Line EP. 4am Kru performs live with energetic shows centred on its jungle sound. The duo’s first Resident Advisor event was in 2021, and it has played across London, South and East England, Manchester, Bristol and Sheffield. Its live shows have also warmed up arenas for Chase & Status.
