Mark McCann launched ABIS in 2018, after moving from the UK to Holland and discovering music production there. Based in Rotterdam, McCann had previously been one half of June Miller. ABIS is his drum-and-bass solo project, and in 2018 he also co-founded the label DIVIDID with Signal, whose real name is Jonathan Kievit, and Lars Dingeman. ABIS and Signal opened the label’s release run with the EP The Wall, which reached number two in the drum-and-bass charts.
ABIS has also released music on RAM Records and worked with Buunshin, Synergy, Zombie Cats and Malux. McCann was commissioned to compose four tracks for the virtual-reality game Space Pirate Trainer and two tracks for the Let It Roll Winter Opening show. ABIS appeared with LaMeduza on the EP Vertigo and with Malux on the EP World Ends.
In 2018, ABIS released the single Bun Bun on Space Pirate Recordings with James Marvel and MC Mota. In 2019, ABIS worked with DLR on Artworld for Sofa Sound and released ALL4U EP on DIVIDID with Zombie Cats. In 2023, ABIS and Tom Finster released Year Of I - Remixes part 3 on DIVIDID. In 2024, ABIS revisited Bun Bun with James Marvel and MC Mota for Bun Bun - Remixed on Space Pirate Recordings.
