At twelve, Benjie began making beats on an Amiga computer. The stage name belongs to Benjamin Kastner, a German artist from Hannover whose work spans reggae, dancehall and hip-hop. Kastner became active in reggae and dancehall in the 1990s and co-founded the Rebel Sound soundsystem with Benni Rebel. His breakthrough came with “Ganja Smoka”; in 2003, he released the album So gesehen. Two years later came Unterwegs, released on Gimme Mo Records.
Benjie has described combining reggae with experimental sounds. He spent more than two years working independently on an LP and built a small home studio to complete it. In 2012, he released the album So Gesehen on Freigang. The 2014 single “Frieden” came out with House Of Riddim. The single “Original Style” came out on King Toppa in 2015, the same year as the album Schatten und Licht. In 2021, Benjie released the single “Te Amo Más” on Niva Records.
Benjie said he was considering splitting his project into two, one for experimental music and one for reggae. He planned to perform with sound systems and at club shows, continuing his long-standing involvement in reggae alongside his brother Johnny Danger.
