ClashTone brings together Tony Friend, Jack Nelson, Jade and Pete Jolliffe in a drum and bass project. Friend, formerly of Modestep, and Jolliffe began making music together before Nelson and Jade joined; Jade is Eatbrain’s label manager, while Nelson is part of Mai Davael and Jolliffe also performs under that name. The members mainly shared project files remotely, often passing ideas from Nelson to Jolliffe, then Friend and finally Jade.
The group’s first release was a three-track EP, shaped by the members’ different strengths in drums, samples, bass and mixing. ClashTone has released drum and bass music on Eatbrain, including the track Flicker and the EP Ninja Scroll EP, with Jimmy Danger and Pastry Maker also credited on the latter. The track “Faded” features Pastry Maker. In 2021, ClashTone was among the artists on Eatbrain’s Lobotomy Cuts 3, alongside Mizo, Teddy Killerz and Agressor Bunx. The two releases appeared on Eatbrain in 2019.
