Kingston-born Daddy Freddy, the stage name of S. Frederick Small, was raised in Trenchtown and began performing with Sugar Minott’s sound system. In 1985, he recorded the single Zoo Party for Studio One. His rapid-fire rapping brought wider notice, and in 1988 he entered the Guinness Book of World Records for a rap exceeding 500 syllables per minute. After returning to the UK in 1987, he signed with Music of Life and began working with Asher D. Their 1988 album Raggamuffin Hip-Hop joined ragga and hip-hop, while their collaboration helped establish ragga-hip-hop.
He later signed with Chrysalis, which released his 1991 album Stress. In 2000, he teamed up with dub producer The Rootsman for the album Old School, New School.
