Kiril Bonev began making drum and bass in late 2011, after an accident kept him at home for a month. The Bulgarian producer uses Funkware as his artist name, and has described his music as drum and bass shaped by jazz, funk and soul. His 2012 single Sinestetic EP preceded his 2013 release on Soul Bros. Records, which presented him as a young talent from Bulgaria. That single, Like Your Heart / Crazy Cut, contains the tracks “Like Your Heart” and “Crazy Cut,” which draw on funk and soulful, atmospheric drum and bass.
Bonev has released music on Good Looking Records, Vibration Records, Textures Music Group, Inform Records and Soul Deep Recordings. He identified Lifestream, an album on Soul Deep Recordings, as the release that best represents his sound. His releases also include Kiwi Dancer, a 2015 album, and the 2015 single Musique Liquide. Funkware operates Funkstuff Recordings with a close friend. Other label homes include LW Recordings, where his releases include Drum & Bass Resonance, Vol. 18 and Drum & Bass Horizons, Vol. 10. His 2018 single was Lifestyle EP, followed in 2019 by Forgotten Society. The latter appeared on Soul Deep Exclusives. The track “Wah Wah Song” is credited to Funkstuff Recordings, as is “Bodyrocker.” “High At Noon” also carries a Funkstuff Recordings credit.
Funkware has collaborated with MSDOS, Mortadela and Euphorics. His track “Oye” is credited to Inform Records. “Just You” and “Never Too Late” also carry Inform Records credits; “Lemonade” is associated with Liquid Drops. In 2021, he released Tarantula, and in 2023 his releases included Funk In A Bottle. Tarantula appeared on Symmetry Recordings.
