GEST began as a drum-and-bass duo formed by David Stone and Harry Hackett, after the pair had released music as Gerra & Stone. In 2020, they adopted the GEST name for their move onto Shogun Audio, having previously issued music through the label’s SGN:LTD imprint.
The duo described GEST as building on their previous productions while drawing more heavily on techno and electronic music beyond drum and bass. Detroit techno and acid house are among the influences associated with the project, alongside brutalist influences. They also cited hardware synthesisers and drum machines as important sources of inspiration, used alongside software production. GEST’s music combines drum and bass with techno elements, with the duo specifically identifying Detroit techno as part of that mix.
The four tracks on Futurism EP are “Futurism,” “No Doubt,” “Shame” and “Deja Vu”; the EP arrived on Shogun Audio in 2021. The duo followed it with The Nexus EP, their second EP on the label. Its four tracks are “The Nexus,” “Concentrate,” “Stayed On My Mind” and “Reverence.” In 2023, GEST released the single “Scolopendra” on Shogun Audio. The duo released the single “The Foundation” on Shogun Audio in 2020. Their 2024 singles on the label included “Superstructure” and “Escalate.”
GEST began as a collaboration between Stone and Hackett, but the project now carries on as David Stone’s solo undertaking. In 2026, GEST released “Makaya” on deep method.
