Kimyan, formerly known as Kimyan Law, is the stage name of Nicola Mpunga, a Congolese-Austrian musician, producer and composer born in Vienna in 1994 to a Congolese father and an Austrian mother. He began exploring electronic music at 12 and started releasing music as Kimyan Law in 2014. That year brought the album Coeur Calme and the single “Run Ames / Eclairage” on Blu Mar Ten Music. His work spans drum and bass, film music and sound design, drawing on percussion, African musical harmonies and classical music. He has also collaborated with the London-based drum-and-bass and electronica group Blu Mar Ten.
Kimyan’s next album, Zawadi, arrived in 2016, followed by Yonda in 2019. He founded the independent label PlusPlusPlus Music in 2022 and released the album Emblem of Peace that year. Later collaborations include the single “Rafiki” with Degs and “Sol” with Elyn. His tracks have also featured Robert Manos, Clara Luzia and Phentix, while “Facade” was a single made with SISKA. In 2023, he released “Ethereality” on Let It Roll. That year he also worked with David Raddish on “Crisp & Crunchy,” released on ComePlayGlow Records.
In 2024, the EP Overcast came out alongside a music short film. In 2025, he performed at Luna Beach Club in Bali and Cafe 7stern. In 2026, he played at venues in Hackney Wick, and released the album Coloria on PlusPlusPlus Music.
In a 2026 interview, Kimyan described Coloria as a more playful and intuitive way of making music. He said self-built sound libraries provided a creative playground.
