Kowta is the stage name of Benjamin Kowta, a producer born and raised in Davis, California, who has been active in the West Coast bass scene since 2014 and is now based in Tahoe. His music draws on hip-hop, dubstep and early drum & bass, alongside reggae, trap, glitch and experimental bass influences. His releases have appeared on Create Music Group, Saturate! Records, Sleeveless Records, ShadowTrix Music and We Got This.
ShadowTrix Music released Kowta’s 2016 album Dark Matter, followed by the 2018 EP Tidal Wave. On Sleeveless Records, he released the MONSTA EP, his second EP for the label. He worked with JLEON on “Dystopian Resonance” for Muti Music and remixed MiMOSA’s “SWRV”; the remix was released as “SWRV (MiM0SA & Kowta Remix)” in 2025. That year, Kowta and Layup released the album Night Code. JLEON also collaborated with him on “Alternate.”
Kowta collaborated with Substance (CA) on the Demons EP and the track “Wasteland,” released on Deep, Dark And Dangerous in 2025. “When The Beat Go” appeared on Sleeveless Records.
