Chris Pearson work as Octane is rooted in UK drum and bass, with his best-known partnership formed with James “J” Rowbotham, the producer and DJ known as DLR. Together they performed as Octane & DLR, a London duo associated with Dispatch Recordings. Their studio work drew attention for its technical detail, and the pair played at Fabric and Outlook Festival. Octane’s role spans production and DJing.
In 2012, Octane & DLR released their debut album, Method in the Madness, on Dispatch Recordings. The duo also worked with Break on the track “Murmur” and with Survival on “Transition”. Their wider collaborative circle included Cern and EBK. In 2015, Octane & DLR and Break released Murmur VIP / Tugboat VIP / Regeneration on Dispatch Dubplate. Octane & DLR also developed music outside drum and bass through Cymatic, a downtempo project formed with Ruckspin and Quantum Soul.
Cymatic brought Pearson and Rowbotham into a collective setting with Ruckspin and Quantum Soul, while Octane & DLR remained their shared drum-and-bass project. Their live appearances included Fabric and Outlook Festival, alongside the duo’s production and DJ work.
