Omnist began in 2017 as Johann’s electronic music project, after he started making hip-hop beats and house music as a teenager around 2010. Johann set it up to explore electronic production and bass synthesis without being tied to a single genre. The project’s sound draws on hip-hop, dubstep, drum and bass and sound-system music, bringing together distorted bass, vinyl samples and breakbeat influences. Omnist has released music through Wonk#ay Records, Rapture Studios, The Vale, Street Ritual, Gravitas Recordings and Colony Productions.
Early releases include the 2019 single Realness on 40oz Records and the 2021 single Peripheral on Swampwoofer. Omnist released Systems in 2021, followed by the 2022 single Expressions. Collaborations include the single Comin’ Thru (feat. Omnist) with Duffrey and Blue Shift / Passed Out with NUEQ. In 2023, Omnist and Smol released the single Yu & Me through Gravitas Recordings. Later collaborations include Thug Season || The Boys with Alejo and the 2025 single Breathe with OkayJake.
