Jake Bratrude performs as Rudebrat, a California-based producer and DJ associated with dubstep and drum & bass. A multi-instrumentalist as well as an electronic music artist, Bratrude was 23 in 2013 and graduated from UC Santa Cruz. Los Angeles has also been identified as his base. His musical influences range from classical music to recordings from the 1940s and ’50s, alongside field recordings made on hikes. Bratrude has spoken of performing for audiences as a major motivation, singling out a Wobbleland show for more than 1,000 people as especially memorable.
In 2012, Rudebrat released two EPs: Make The Floor Shake through Heavy Artillery Recordings and Lunar through Simplify Recordings. The following year brought The Quick and the Dead, an EP on Simplify Recordings, with its title track also among Rudebrat’s notable work. In that interview, Bratrude discussed an album in progress that would draw on hard rock, metal and dubstep, while using song structures he described as accessible. The Lunar EP includes the tracks “Eastern Riot,” “Whiskey Dream,” and “Villain.”
Rudebrat’s next EP, Feel This, came out through Rottun Recordings in 2014.
